» Kickrunners 2010
2010 is the 5th anniversary of kickrunners.com. It's hard to believe how far we've come in 5 years. I am excited to see what the next five years will bring!

We've gone from a small MSN user group with 5 people to a full service site with over 3000 members and over 1000 active members. Here's a quick run down of the what kickrunners has to offer:
  • A complete and very active community - on any given day you're bound to find a topic that meets your needs and piques your interest. From serious running to just day to day banter, the community here offers much more than the typical 'forum' communities.
  • A customized Running and Exercise log - The free version of our log is limited in scope and has just a running log but our expanded exercise log that comes with our premium membership allows you to record multiple sporting events and share your log. You can let your trainer review all of your log or just the graphs - it's completely up to you. The log has been designed with the input of our members.
  • Training and Exercise Calculators - The newest add on to kickrunners.com are the calculators. These are available to all registered members. Originally designed by Owen Barder to go with his book, "Running for Fitness". Owen graciously allowed us permission to use his formulae here at kickrunners.com.

  • Training Programs - Written by our members and available free with registration, the training programs are designed for every level of conditioning and covers distances from 5k to 50k. The authors are always available to assist you in your training.
These are just a few of the many features we have here at kickrunners.com. So what's coming down the pipe for kickrunners.com in 2010?
  • A New Look! Vbulletin 4.0 has been released and our plan is to migrate our site to the newest version of vbulletin. Because of our custom coding, this process will take a great deal of time and effort to accomplish, but in the end it will be worth it.
  • A New Server! In the upgrade process, I'll be moving kickrunners to a newer server. Several reasons for the move - Performance and ease of migration to the new platform. This will ensure kickrunners won't have to be taken down. We'll get the new site up and live and then 'flip the switch' - much like we did when we moved from first server to being on our own.
  • New Running Log features - My goal for 2010 is to increase the reporting functionality of our running log and allow users to get a 'raw' download of their log for importing into excel or other programs. I'd like to have a direct link to google maps to allow you to 'map' your runs as well.
If you've not considered subscribing to kickrunners.com and would like to subscribe, your commitment to kickrunners is what allows us to not only stay online, but more importantly grow and become a better site and community. As always - if you want to subscribe, but simply can't afford it - send me a private message; we've got 'scholarship' options that help offset the cost of the subscription - up to and including a 'full ride' scholarship!

So, as we move into the next 5 years, allow me once again to thank each of you for your contribution and presence at our site. I hope you enjoy being here as much as I enjoy providing the site! Together, we can make the next 5 years even better than the last five!

Warm Regards,

satfix

» Welcome To Kickrunners!
Welcome to kickrunners.com!

This site was started by a small group of friends who met at Kicksports.com many years ago (well, in 'Internet years' anyway). We started as an MSN group and we've gone through many iterations since then to become what you see today.

We have a great group of members who frequent our site. Check out the forum area to see what it's all about. From Extreme Running and Ultra Distance Running to just 'goofing off' in The Post Race Tent - the forums have something for everyone.

We also offer Free Training Programs - They're located in the Articles section (You must register to see that area). There's a forum set up to discuss your training program and the authors of the programs will be happy to help you! From 5k beginners to running your first ultra marathon - we have a program for you

A Free Running Log! Yes, we have a completely free running log. Track and graph your results - but again, you have to register to use it.

There is so much more here - so take some time and look around. But to really experience all that kickrunners.com has to offer, you have to register. And that's free too! So what are you waiting for?

OT, but for you folks that have done 24 events.
Feb 08, 2010 - 5:03 PM - by Chris the Wheeler
So, I'm directing a 24 hour basketball game. Actually, it's a 26.2 hour game. Wheelchair Baketball Marathon. It's going to be a fundraiser for my ball team.

I'm doing my meeting agenda now for a committee meeting on Thursday night. Here's my question for the Multi-sport brain trust.

If you've done 24 hour over night events, what have you wanted, needed or at least expected in the way of support?

Any ideas for me?

BTW, for you local folks. Able Bodied folks will be allowed to collect some donations and come play for an hour or more.... How about it? Any of you athletes up to the challenge? For at least an hour maybe?

made my IMAZ video
Feb 08, 2010 - 4:58 PM - by maggie d
hi everybody!
I finally got around to making a video from Arizona and I wanted to share it with you all. It's about 6 minutes, so it's long, but it is the story of my journey to my 3rd Ironman. complete with the friends that helped me get there, my booboo from my bike accident, the hard training days, eating lots of food!, and the gang that was there in AZ cheering us on.
hope you have time to watch it, it has music, so enjoy!

OT: Superbowl Ads
Feb 08, 2010 - 3:52 PM - by Alaska Mike
Which ads did folks think were the best during this year's game? Overall, I thought the quality was a down a bit this year, especially the beer commercials.

Favorite: The Doritos ad where the kids slaps the guy and tells him 'Don't be looking at my momma and don't touch my Doritos!'

2nd Favorite: The Denny's ad with the screaming chickens, especially the chicken screaming in space.

3rd Favorite: The e-trade baby milk-o-holic ad.

On a slightly related note, I though the Lance ad for Michelob Ultra was pretty ho-hum. They could have used any of the usual picture-perfect models they normally use in those ads in place of Lance.

Monday, Feb. 8 - Workouts
Feb 08, 2010 - 2:50 PM - by Thor
Good (sleepy) morning, TEAM LIT!

Good game last night. Enjoyable to watch, and I did get into it, but with my Patriots not among the final two as they were many times in the last decade, it was lacking something slightly.

AdCo: Was joking about the Es. Ee. Ex. And also, if you do ALL of your long runs and rides along, seriously consider finding another person to do them with every once in a while. Because although it is great that you "punched" through yesterday's run, the truth is that you only get so many of those types (where you struggle through them both physically and mentally) before burnout sets in. So consider finding someone to run with.

Rest day for me...

3 miles run in a new pair of Saucony Triumph 7's. Very light and extremely stable for a pair of shoes labeled as cushioned for nuetral runners. I *love* them. Hammered home the last mile because in spite a hungover body tired from weekend's workouts my feet felt too light in these shoes.

Great day, Tri-peeps!
